HISTORY
Founded in Mexico City in 2003, Arte Mecánica is an independent production company dedicated to the development, production and co-production of auteur cinema.
Over more than two decades of activity, the company has produced or co-produced 20 feature films, 3 television documentaries, 6 short films and a fiction series. Its productions have been selected by major international film festivals including Cannes, Locarno, IDFA, Tokyo, Tribeca, Hot Docs, Guadalajara and Vancouver, among many others.
Among its most recognized productions are La 4a Compañía, winner of 10 Ariel Awards including Best Picture; Días de Gracia, selected for the Cannes Film Festival and recipient of multiple Ariel Awards; El Hombre que Vio Demasiado, winner of the Ariel Award for Best Documentary; Carga Sellada, Jury Prize winner at the International Film Festival of Goa and Bolivia's submission to the Academy Awards; and 9 Meses 9 Días, selected for IDFA, Havana, Guadalajara and other leading documentary festivals.
Arte Mecánica also produced Short Plays, an international anthology series featuring contributions from filmmakers such as Gaspar Noé, Vincent Gallo, Doris Dörrie, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Pablo Fendrik, Viktor Kossakovsky and Carlos Reygadas, among others.
Since relocating its operations to Guadalajara, Jalisco, the company has continued to expand its activities through the production and co-production of feature films, as well as collaborations with national and international partners. During this period it has participated in projects such as El Rey de Todo el Mundo, the final film directed by Carlos Saura and photographed by three-time Academy Award winner Vittorio Storaro, as well as the award-winning feature Allá by Montserrat Larqué.
Today, Arte Mecánica develops, produces and co-produces films with strong artistic identities and international ambitions, working alongside filmmakers who place the creative process at the center of their practice.
